Interview With Bogdan Predusca

Describe your product or service:

“Hyperhuman is the omnichannel platform for health & fitness video content. We offer the most streamlined path for creating and distributing quality video content and a world-class experience for content consumption on any channel or format.”

Describe your company values and mission:

“Making the world's health and fitness video content universally accessible and reusable.”

How are you funded? I.e. venture capital, angel investors, etc.

“Venture Capital — €500,000 seed from Early Game Ventures, Sparking Capital, and Simple Capital.”

How big is your team? Tell us a little about them (I.e. co-founders, freelancers, etc.)

“14 world-class team members and collaborators. Global team on three continents: US, UK, RO, IT, PH”

Did you always want to start your own business? What made you want to become an entrepreneur?

“I’m Bogdan Predusca, CEO and co-founder of Hyperhuman. I’m an experienced tech entrepreneur and product leader. I’m really passionate about innovative products that help improve our everyday lives. I’m an MBA and Master of Computer Science graduate with 18+ years experience in the tech industry ranging from startups to enterprises.”

How did you come up with your startup idea? How did you decide to actually act on the idea? What gave you confidence that you were on the right track?

“Every industry has its go-to platform for creators and experts. For example, the music industry has Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud, and others.

The health and fitness industry is very fragmented. Everyone is struggling to create video content in different ways on different channels, and it’s really hard to create a constant feed of fun, diversified, and rewarding content for large audiences. Usually, only the top players in the industry afford this, and only a few health and fitness creators have access to these production and distribution platforms. But, what do you do with the remaining millions of fitness trainers, instructors, yogis, sports coaches, athletes, physiotherapy experts, wellness gurus, and fitness experts? What’s their current option — monolithic YouTube videos? We don’t think that this is the future of on-demand video training and coaching.”

How did you come up with your company name? Did you have other names you considered?

“Yes, we had several options, but Hyperhuman is the perfect name that captures the essence of what we do: elevate creators and organisations and empower them to grow online and produce or license quality video workouts at scale.”

Feeling inspired? Learn how to launch your company with our guide on how to start a startup.

What is the greatest challenge you faced in starting your business, and how did you overcome it?

“We still [have] a lot of things to improve when it comes to marketing our product. We know that what we are building is going to have a positive impact, but we still have to find the best way to communicate our vision to the people and organisations that would benefit most.”

Who is your product or service made for? Who is your target market?

“Individual health and fitness professionals [and] organisations that need to produce or licence quality video workouts at scale.”

What's your marketing strategy?

“Our goal is to become the go-to platform for health and fitness content. We want to become the liaison between individual professionals, consumers, and businesses, helping every one of them reach their goals with the help of quality content.”

How did you acquire your first 100 customers?

“Quite fast, in just a few weeks since we launched commercially in Aug 2021.”

What are the key customer metrics / unit economics / KPIs you pay attention to to monitor the health of your business?

“Registered solid growth in both supply and demand since our commercial launch in August: number of users (251% growth), number of content (235%), and number of creators (342% growth).

Four B2B active pilots, 60 businesses on the waiting list.”

What's your favorite book on entrepreneurship?

“‘High Output Management’ by Andrew Grove”

What is your favorite startup or business podcast?

“‘Peter Theil — Competition is for Losers’ [episode on the ‘How to Start a Startup’ podcast].”

What is something that surprised you about entrepreneurship?

“Speed and learning curve.”

How do you achieve work/life balance as a founder?

“Doing sports (football, jogging, fitness) on [a] regular basis and maintaining constant social activities.”

How do you stay motivated?

“My high goals and passion are my key motivation and everyday fuel. I’m a GT car and sports enthusiast that is always up to great challenges and healthy competition.”

Did you have to develop any habits that helped lead you to success? If so, what are they?

“Disconnect from the daily work when leaving the office. Hang out with friends and talk about other topics not related to business.”

What are you most proud of as an entrepreneur?

  • “Building things that people use or wear on a regular basis
  • Rally[ing] the team around a common dream
  • Growing teams and being inspired by people around me
  • Learning curve”
