Founder of Tech Startup Genium Shares Their Top Insights

Genium founder.

Any entrepreneur can tell you, launching a startup is a learning process. Therefore, one of the best things you can do prior to launching a startup of your own is to learn from those who have blazed the trail. Alex Iceman, founder of tech startup Genium, shared valuable insights during our interview that will inspire and motivate aspiring entrepreneurs.

What advice do you have for aspiring entrepreneurs?

“Ask for help. Have at least five mentors around you. Surround yourself with people you want to become. Have great people skills. It’s all about people and relationships.”

What is the best method you've found to avoid burnout as an entrepreneur?

“For me, it’s switching activities. When I am tired I go to the gym, or write music. When I need to get new and fresh ideas I fly my airplane or ref a hockey game. I like to snowboard and surf. Every professional athlete needs time to rest and reenergize,  an entrepreneur is an athlete and we must force ourselves to rest.”

What is your advice for coming up with a unique startup idea?

“While the line of business is not unique, the configuration and the model we offer is quite unique. It helps with value proposition and easier sales process. We keep everything as simple as possible and focus on saving time and money. It’s a no-brainer to work with us. For our product company Toosa, being unique is also a great thing as people line up to onboard and we have a waiting list. The downside is educating potential clients can take a longer time.”

What is your advice for overcoming challenges and failure?

“Absolutely be passionate about what you do and have the best team possible around you.”

What is the biggest lesson you learned and what can aspiring entrepreneurs take from it?

“Never let invoices past due. Always listen to your customer, they will tell you all their needs and pains. They are your main investor. Ask for referrals.”

What is the best advice you've ever received?

“Don't be afraid to ask for help.”
