Describe your product or service:
“Culture Booster is an employee experience platform. We help organizations identify and address gaps in their employee experience journeys.”
Describe your company values and mission:
“Our mission is to help organizations work better together. Our values are empathy, teamwork, detail orientation, creativity, and optimism.”
How are you funded? I.e. type of funding, number of funding rounds, total funding amount.
“Bootstrapped.”
How big is your team? Tell us a little about them!
“We’re a tiny but mighty team of eight. Our CTO is a former PayPal technician who won their Most Innovative Engineer award.”
How did you come up with and validate your startup idea? Tell us the story!
“I was a consultant traveling around the country doing employee engagement and leadership development work for large retail automotive groups.
I experienced some dissonance. I loved the work I did but disliked all the travel. Literally, days would go by, and I wouldn’t see my daughters. So I thought I could build a platform of all the tools I created and still do the work I loved and impact even more lives.”
How did you come up with your startup's name? Did you have other names you considered?
“I thought about my goal. I wanted our platform to improve culture. And I like phonetic sounding names … and so ‘Culture Booster’ accomplished both.”
Did you always want to start your own business? What made you want to become an entrepreneur?
“I knew I wanted to one day, I didn’t know it would come as soon as it did.”
What was the biggest obstacle you encountered while launching your company? How did you overcome it?
“The biggest obstacle was being non-technical. Having a co-founder was the best thing to happen to our company.”

Who is your target market? How did you establish the right market for your startup?
“Our current clients are medium-sized nonprofits and school districts. Although any organization experiencing burnout or turnover can benefit from our services.”
What's your primary marketing strategy?
“SEO.”
How did you acquire your first 100 customers?
“We aren’t there yet. Our first customers were direct outreach on LinkedIn.”
What are the key customer metrics / unit economics / KPIs you pay attention to to monitor the health of your business?
“New clients, CAC”
What's your favorite startup book and podcast?
“‘Good to Great’ by Jim Collins. Not a startup book but helps me start with the right foundation. Malcolm Gladwell‘s podcast ‘Revisionist History’ is my favorite.”
What is a song or artist that you listen to for motivation?
“I listen to Jay Z for motivation.”
Is there a tool, app, or resource that you swear by to help run your startup?
“Notion.”
What is something that surprised you about entrepreneurship?
“I would get so happy about the smallest of feature updates.”
How do you achieve work/life balance as a founder?
“Summer hours where we have Fridays off has helped me relieve some pressure.”
When did you know it was time to quit your day job to focus on your startup?
“I was a consultant, and COVID forced me to pivot full-time.”
What was your first job and what did it teach you?
“Grocery bagger. It taught me humility and how to provide exceptional service.”
