Insights From the Founder of Renewable Energy Startup Solar Intermodal

Any entrepreneur can tell you, launching a startup is a learning process. Therefore, one of the best things you can do prior to launching a startup of your own is to learn from those who have blazed the trail. We were fortunate enough to hear some valuable insights during our interview with Robert R. Anderson, Jr. of solar energy startup Solar Intermodal that will inspire, motivate, and teach aspiring and established entrepreneurs alike.

What advice do you have for aspiring entrepreneurs?

“Don't ever give up. Keep trying. The solution will come to you when you least expect it. The beauty of America is the freedom of expression, which is closely tied to free thought. Free thought is what creates the world we live in. The world you live in. The world you create.”

What is your advice for entrepreneurs in your industry specifically?

“Create your own industry. Creation is what entrepreneurs do. Kraft re-imagined cheese — a thousand-year-old traditional food. He reinvented it and created a new market.”

What is your advice for coming up with a unique startup idea?

“Write it down in a binder. Yes, use paper and pen. Sign the bottom of each page and date [it]. Get a witness to sign if you can. Protect your ideas until they need to be shared and you have facilitated the appropriate protections.”

What is your advice for overcoming challenges and failure?

“Post analysis of the failure, but avoid emotions and dwelling. Anxiety is worry about the future, and depression is worry about the past. None of them matter. Live in the now; it’s a gift, that's why it's called the present.

Learn from the mistakes and refine the approach to the challenge to make it successful. Clearly have the goals specifically laid out. Don't let criticism stop you. Clear your head.”
