Insights From the Founder of Edtech Startup One Typical Day

One Typical Day founder.

Any entrepreneur can tell you, launching a startup is a learning process. Therefore, one of the best things you can do prior to launching a startup of your own is to learn from those who have blazed the trail. We were fortunate enough to hear some valuable insights during our interview with Eloise Skinner of edtech startup One Typical Day that will inspire, motivate, and teach aspiring and established entrepreneurs alike.

What advice do you have for aspiring entrepreneurs?

“Stay focused, stay persistent and stay connected — to yourself, to your vision, and to those around you.”

What is your advice for entrepreneurs in your industry specifically?

“Make sure you're up to date on the trends in the industry — including the shift to digital and the developments in ed-tech. And talk to your users! Find out what they're thinking and what they want to see from companies operating in this space.”

What is your advice for coming up with a unique startup idea?

“Lots of brainstorming and talking with those in the field. Finding a real problem usually involves conversations with others who experience that problem, and not just coming up with a vision in your mind!”

What is your advice for overcoming challenges and failure?

“Keep the end result in mind. Ask yourself: what am I doing this for? Hopefully, your reason for pushing through is stronger than the challenges you'll face along the way.”

What is the biggest lesson you learned and what can aspiring entrepreneurs take from it?

“Having a mentor is really important, especially in the early stages. Find someone a couple of steps ahead of you — someone you admire — and then connect with them. Build up a relationship of trust, and ask for their advice. Mentors can be so helpful — both in a personal and professional sense — as you start the journey into entrepreneurship.”
