Founder of Music Tech Startup Melodie Shares Their Top Insights

Melodie Music founder.

Any entrepreneur can tell you, launching a startup is a learning process. Therefore, one of the best things you can do prior to launching a startup of your own is to learn from those who have blazed the trail. Evan Buist, founder of music tech startup Melodie, shared valuable insights during our interview that will inspire and motivate aspiring entrepreneurs.

What advice do you have for aspiring entrepreneurs?

“Don't be afraid to fail fast and often. Learn from your mistakes and celebrate your successes.”

What is the best method you've found to avoid burnout as an entrepreneur?

“Work-life balance is possible. You'll be more productive if you can achieve that balance. Find your de-stress tool. Is it meditation, yoga, or running?”

What is your advice for coming up with a unique startup idea?

“Go to every event and talk to everyone. Travel when you can, keep an open mind and open eyes. It's often not a lack of ideas, but deciding which one is ‘the one.’”

What is your advice for overcoming challenges and failure?

“Like I said above, fail fast and often. It's really not a bad thing so long as you take something away from it each time. You'll move forward faster and stronger after each challenge.”

What is the biggest lesson you learned and what can aspiring entrepreneurs take from it?

“Rather than hiring the cheapest, hire the best people you can afford for key roles early on, even when you're bootstrapped. And look after your people. People are what make or break a business.”

What is the best advice you've ever received?

“Be kind.”
