What motivated you to start Marketing Atelier? How did the idea come about?

My business partner is my twin sister, Kelly Konstantakis. We both worked in marketing and knew that we would eventually team up and have our own company. It was just a matter of time.

What was your mission at the beginning of starting your business?

I was determined to be a leader in my industry, have financial independence and flexibility.

What do you attribute your success to? Is there a trait you have or a person who helped you along the way?

My diligence and perseverance have helped me get through difficult times. I have been surrounded by business owners my entire life. I have seen many face difficult challenges. They inspired me and kept me motivated to keep moving forward.

When times get tough, what would you say motivates you to keep going? To not hit the snooze button and to keep fighting for your goals.

I was born to Greek immigrants and I was surrounded by several successful Greek business owners that had limited command of the English language. If they could make it, I had no excuse.

Employees are one of the most important players to succeed in business. What do you look for in an employee?

I look for employees who are loyal, diligent, personable and have a can-do attitude.

What is unique about your business? Is there a competitive advantage that you have over the rest?

Technology has made a huge impact on my industry. I have embraced it and used it to come up with creative and innovative marketing strategies.

Have you ever gotten a disappointed client or customer? If so, how did you handle the situation?

Everyone has had to deal with difficult situations with clients. You just have to keep working at it until the situation is resolved.

Is there a type of marketing that has worked amazingly for Marketing Atelier? If so, how did you stumble upon it?

Inbound marketing has been extremely effective.

Is there any resource or resources that helped you on your journey to becoming a business owner?

You have to stay current in your industry. I read as many trade publications as possible. I have also asked several business owners about their personal experiences and gained a lot of insightful information.

What are the three best pieces of advice that you would give to anyone starting a business in New York? What do they need to know from the very beginning?

  • Build a large trustworthy network; they will open doors for you.
  • Surround yourself with other successful entrepreneurs. They will have invaluable advice and experiences to share.
  • At times, you will have hardships and feel like you want to give up. The ones that succeed never give up no matter what life throws their way. If being a business owner was easy, everybody would do it.
