Interview With Danielle Cearbaugh

Describe your product or service:

“CBD products, conscious events, and group coaching.”

Describe your company values and mission:

“We create safe places for people to connect more deeply with themselves and in return connect more deeply with those around them.”

How big is your team? Tell us a little about them!

“We have a total of three team members. All women-owned and operated.”

How did you come up with and validate your startup idea? Tell us the story!

“After my third child, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s and postpartum depression. I hit rock bottom in my health and was looking for an alternative solution to help support me. CBD was really the only natural method that I could find that actually gave me relief. So I became very passionate about helping bring this product to the market and also bring awareness by removing the stigma around Cannabis. I’ve been running this storefront for four years, and it’s been a beautiful fall learning experience to be able to help support the community in this way.”

How did you come up with your startup’s name? Did you have other names you considered?

“It just came to me through a piece of artwork. I feel like it exemplified exactly the energy that I was desiring to exude through my business.”

Did you always want to start your own business? What made you want to become an entrepreneur?

“Yes, I’ve been an entrepreneur my entire life. Started my first business when I was nine years old. Being an entrepreneur is such a gift, and I’m grateful to be on this path.”

What was the biggest obstacle you encountered while launching your company? How did you overcome it?

“All the learning curves with having a storefront. Prior to that, I was mainly working online, so having a brick and mortar was a whole other bridge to cross.”

Who is your target market? How did you establish the right market for your startup?

“Our target market is women between the age of 25 and 40.”

What’s your primary marketing strategy?

“We market mainly through email, social media, pop-up markets, and word-of-mouth.”

How did you acquire your first 100 customers?

“Through our press release, magazine marketing, and word-of-mouth.”

What are the key customer metrics / unit economics / KPIs you pay attention to to monitor the health of your business?

“I mainly follow the growth through the back end of our website and Google Analytics.”

What’s your favorite startup book and podcast?

“I love Gary Vaynerchuk’s podcast and book, ‘Crush It.’”

What is a song or artist that you listen to for motivation?

“Beyoncé and worship music.”

Is there a tool, app, or resource that you swear by to help run your startup?

“Square has been the biggest tool for me.”

What is something that surprised you about entrepreneurship?

“I don’t think it’s so much about surprises as much as your ability to be able to pivot with the surprises/changes that come up. I don’t necessarily feel surprised anymore as much as I feel ready for anything that comes my way.”

How do you achieve work/life balance as a founder?

“Finding balance is forever changing depending on the season. Now that my kids are back in school I feel I can find more balance. Making sure I’m working out in the morning after I drop my kids off at school before I head into my storefront. Balance is a huge priority for me. I would say having clear boundaries and prioritizing sleep are the most important for me.”

When did you know it was time to quit your day job to focus on your startup?

“I’ve always known, and I’ve been made to be an entrepreneur.”

What was your first job and what did it teach you?

“My first job was a dog-walking business. I learned the importance of little things and how much they matter.”
