Any entrepreneur can tell you, launching a startup is a learning process. Therefore, one of the best things you can do prior to launching a startup of your own is to learn from those who have blazed the trail. Ed Johnson, founder of software startup PushFar, shared valuable insights during our interview that will inspire and motivate aspiring entrepreneurs.
What advice do you have for aspiring entrepreneurs?
“Just get started. So many people have great business ideas that they don’t turn into businesses. If you have an idea that you want to turn into a business, just go for it.”
What is the best method you’ve found to avoid burnout as an entrepreneur?
“Sleep! Always make sure you’re aiming for eight hours’ sleep. Working late into the night will not help. Get an early night, get up early, and work hard through the day but don’t give up the time required for eight hours’ sleep.”
What is your advice for coming up with a unique startup idea?
“It doesn’t have to be. Focus on a business solving a problem, but remember that competitors prove that there is a market, and if you focus on being the best you can be, then the idea doesn’t need to be unique.”
What is your advice for overcoming challenges and failure?
“You will always have challenges, and failure should never be seen negatively. Fail fast is a phrase used a lot. Failure means learning. Learning from that can help you to grow and scale your business more effectively.”
What is the biggest lesson you learned and what can aspiring entrepreneurs take from it?
“Don’t wait for your product, service, or business to be perfect. If you do, you’ll never launch. It has to work, but it doesn’t need to be perfect. When it can be used, launch it. If you wait for perfection, you will never launch, and you only have to look at Apple and the fact that they update their iOS on a weekly basis as proof that it will never be perfect.”
