“Focus on customer development for the first six months.”
What is the best method you've found to avoid burnout as an entrepreneur?
“Change in stimulus — introduce a lot of ‘analog’ things into your week. For me, that's running, biking, and swimming. Do something that changes your state (aka in front of a screen).”
What is your advice for coming up with a unique startup idea?
“Eh, ideas are cheap, and they will always evolve — focus on customer development. What's the pain-killing solution you are building? Interview 100 potential customers before you begin development.”
What is your advice for overcoming challenges and failure?
“Welcome failure back like an old friend. Failure is a good thing because you are learning. Startups that truly fail, just give up. Never stop problem-solving.”
What is the biggest lesson you learned and what can aspiring entrepreneurs take from it?
“Entrepreneurship isn't about the highs or the lows. If you feel them, you'll burn out. Focus on falling in love with failing, learning, and improving. Fall in love with the journey of entrepreneurship — it's all about how you show up consistently every day.”
What is your advice for entrepreneurs seeking funding for the first time?
“Don't start with VC. Seek out angels and build a pitch deck that tells a story. Most importantly: have customer testimonials and data. You don't need any funding to reach out to customers and get feedback.”
