Any entrepreneur can tell you, launching a startup is a learning process. Therefore, one of the best things you can do prior to launching a startup of your own is to learn from those who have blazed the trail. We were fortunate enough to hear some valuable insights during our interview with Tegan Spinner, founder of greentech startup Worthmore that will inspire, motivate, and teach aspiring and established entrepreneurs alike.

Overview of Worthmore

What advice do you have for aspiring entrepreneurs?

“The MVP is the death of your startup — work on your story first (which is harder than it sounds). Stories are free, cheap, and quick to iterate without any technical skill sets, so they are the perfect place to start on your entrepreneurial journey. I found that once you have built a good story you will know exactly what type of product you are supposed to build and for who.”

What is your advice for entrepreneurs in your industry specifically?

“Be the champion of the Zebras — remember it is always amazing to try to make a difference in the world, but your idea must have a solid business model if you are to ever [to] drive meaningful change.”

What is your advice for coming up with a unique startup idea?

“Don't focus on the solution  — focus on the problem. If you can explain the problem without ever mentioning what you do to solve it and people agree, then you are on the right path.”

What is your advice for overcoming challenges and failure?

“Don't focus on the solution  — focus on the problem. If you can explain the problem without ever mentioning what you do to solve it and people agree, then you are on the right path.”

What is the biggest lesson you learned and what can aspiring entrepreneurs take from it?

“Don't forget the details like paperwork. Focusing only on the problem you are trying to solve and forgetting the basics of business is what killed my first startup, and nothing is more painful than watching all your hard work fall apart because of administrative technicalities.”
