Any entrepreneur can tell you, launching a startup is a learning process. Therefore, one of the best things you can do prior to launching a startup of your own is to learn from those who have blazed the trail. Dale Solomon, founder of agtech startup Oasia Farms, shared valuable insights during our interview that will inspire and motivate aspiring entrepreneurs.
What advice do you have for aspiring entrepreneurs?
“Focus on creating something important, something that provides value to society.”
What is the best method you’ve found to avoid burnout as an entrepreneur?
“Mindfulness. Take the time to listen to your mind and your body.”
What is your advice for coming up with a unique startup idea?
“Don’t try to find a unique startup idea. Live your life and find what matters to you. Find your passion and the things that bother you about the world. Think about how you’d like to see those things change and then make the change.”
What is your advice for overcoming challenges and failure?
“Remember that everything is temporary. Starting a business is a total emotional rollercoaster, but if you can get in the habit of looking back at all the failures and struggles as necessary learning steps, you can be at peace with them. Eventually, you will start to see every setback as a blessing in disguise that has yet to be realized. When I was about to launch my first major expansion, my whole crop died. I was devastated and started calling everyone in the industry asking for a new seed culture. Some of those people ended up being my biggest clients. None of those connections would have been made without the initial failure.”
What is the biggest lesson you learned and what can aspiring entrepreneurs take from it?
“You have to be patient. Just keep putting in the work day by day.”
What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
“Be relentless — Jeff Bezos.”
