Founder of Proptech Startup Nexme Shares Their Top Insights

Nexme co-founder, Vanessa Alvarez.

Any entrepreneur can tell you, launching a startup is a learning process. Therefore, one of the best things you can do prior to launching a startup of your own is to learn from those who have blazed the trail. Vanessa Alvarez, founder of proptech startup Nexme, shared valuable insights during our interview that will inspire and motivate aspiring entrepreneurs.

What advice do you have for aspiring entrepreneurs?

“Don't let anyone or anything hold you back and just start. Don't wait for the right time, the right co-founder, the right idea. If it's something you feel strongly about, just start doing it.”

What is the best method you've found to avoid burnout as an entrepreneur?

“I like to get exercise, and making time to work out is critical for me. I add it to my schedule and do not move it for anyone or anything. It's what gets me relaxed and energized at the same time.”

What is your advice for coming up with a unique startup idea?

“Unique is different for everyone. If you can make an existing process better, then go for it. You don't have to change the world; you just have to change people's experiences.”

What is your advice for overcoming challenges and failure?

“Learn from [challenges]. Everyone has them, and it's not about how you fall but about how you get back up. As an entrepreneur, you'll get challenged and rejected every day. How you get back up is what matters.”

What is the biggest lesson you learned and what can aspiring entrepreneurs take from it?

“The biggest lesson I learned is that I can make it happen my way. I don't need to look at startup X and say, ‘Oh, I need to do it that way too’ … I'm building my startup on my terms.”

What is the best advice you've ever received?

“Just keep going.”
