Any entrepreneur can tell you, launching a startup is a learning process. Therefore, one of the best things you can do prior to launching a startup of your own is to learn from those who have blazed the trail. Vasily Lukashov, founder of aviation startup FIXAR, shared valuable insights during our interview that will inspire and motivate aspiring entrepreneurs.
What is the best method you’ve found to avoid burnout as an entrepreneur?
“I’m a big fan of driving and exploring new places. So, travels by car are my best resource recovery. “
What is your advice for coming up with a unique startup idea?
“The best experience is your personal experience. In the early days of FIXAR ideas, my mind was occupied with the thoughts [of] how to bring better efficiency to the UAV missions. That was a task I couldn’t get rid of. So, look around, listen to your thoughts, pay attention to what bothers you.”
What is the biggest lesson you learned and what can aspiring entrepreneurs take from it?
“One of our first use-cases was in Elbrus, the highest mountain in Elbrus. The mission was to collect the data from the slope of the mountain at 4,500 meters above sea level in totally autonomous mode. When we came to the point to examine the location a day before the mission, we realized the geomagnetic anomalies, where normally none of the existing UAV with traditional geomagnetic sensors can work. We had to adjust the autopilot algorithms overnight, making them geomagnetic field agnostic. For the first few moments, this task seemed impossible to us – we were in the mountains with two laptops, the connection was terrible. All our team is in the office. They were so excited about this challenge, so instead of quitting, we gave it a try. So, never give up would be my very simple advice. It’s better to try than to be upset about the lost opportunities. Even when the idea looks crazy at first sight.”
