How are you funded?
Bootstrapped, then friends and family, then family office, now debt financing.
How big is your team?
21 full-time [employees]
Tell us about your team:
21 [employees] on payroll, one in Boise, one in London, one in Manilla, and the rest in Minneapolis. We do use contractors and freelancers for certain projects but almost entirely internal employees
What made you want to start your own business?
[I] had a [picture] of a Ferrari on my wall as a kid. [I] asked my Dad how to get one and he said “start a business.”
How did you come up with your startup idea?
Lots of research combined with a personal need for cheaper, higher quality cold brew.
How did you come up with your company name? Did you have other names you considered?
Bizzy was our third name. First it was ‘Cause’ then it was ‘Foundation.’ Lots of Testing!
What is something that makes your company unique?
Amazon’s best seller 🙂
Who is your product or service made for?
Unfortunately, everyone!
What’s your marketing strategy?
Focusing on those that want to be the best versions of themselves. Then energizing them to become that.
How did you acquire your first 100 customers?
Amazon! All about that search 🙂
How do you track your progress?
Lots and lots of KPIs!
How has your approach to business changed from when you started to now?
In the early days it was struggling to find product-market fit. Now it’s all about driving sales velocity and cutting costs.
What’s the #1 resource you rely on for success?
Coffee, literally!
If you could go back in time and change anything about your entrepreneurial journey, would you?
Absolutely! I would have never gone into retail.
What is the biggest lesson you learned during your journey?
Don’t get into the beverage industry.
Who is your support system?
My cofounder, network of mentors, and my parents.
Who inspired you to start your business?
Nobody, it was innate within me.
What motivates you?
The possibilities of life that can be lived while running a successful company.
Did you have to develop any habits that helped lead you to success?
Never, ever give up.
How do you define success?
If I could not action any emails for 2-weeks and my business continues to operate without a hitch, I’ve made it.
What are you most proud of as an entrepreneur?
Employing 21 people!
What advice do you have for aspiring entrepreneurs?
Get to the first dollar as quickly as possible.
