Rocket Lawyer LLC Operating Agreement Template Review

Right For You?

Rocket Lawyer LLC Operating Agreement Template ReviewLLC Operating Agreements are some of the most popular and crucial corporate legal documents to have on hand when starting your next venture.

But, understanding all of the procedures, legal jargon and key pieces of information can be challenging, especially if you’re not yet fluent in all the lingo just yet.

To help with that, several companies have created legal templates that outline all of the necessary steps so you can create tailor-made documents easily. Today we’ll be talking specifically about Rocket Lawyer’s templating platform, and how you can create your LLC Operating Agreements. We’ll walk you through some pros and cons, features and more to see if it’s right for you.

Pros & Cons of Using Rocket Lawyer Templates

  1. LLC operating agreements are extremely common, and Rocket Lawyer has theirs maintained by legal professionals so you know they’re up to date.

  2. If you opt for the Premium/Accelerate service, you can get your operating agreement looked over by a business attorney at a discounted price.

  3. Their template does a good job of handling the basic format and common formal legalese language.

  4. While some customization will likely be necessary, their step-by-step instructions are actually really well designed. It guides you through the process, explaining each section you need to fill out.

  5. Overall their services will cost far less than a law firm or personal attorney. This is one of the primary reasons entrepreneurs and startups use Rocket Lawyer.

  1. While Rocket Lawyer will give you access to independent legal professionals, neither these professionals or Rocket Lawyer will be held liable should you make a mistake. It’s on your shoulders. This is one of the major differences between working with an online legal service and a conventional law firm.

  2. They have tons of online reviews and testimonials, and not everyone has an amazing experience. For example, all our contacts with their customer service have been easy and professional, but some claim differently.

Pricing & Features

First, let’s take a look at the pricing package graphic they use on their site, but I’ll be the first to acknowledge it’s not easy to figure out the fine print when it comes to specific documents. But don’t worry, below I’ll walk you through the different options.

Single Document Purchase = $5-$70 (depending on document complexity)

They cost between $5-$70 depending on the complexity of the document and a few other variables. The one thing I don’t really care for is that you can’t checkout as a guest but have to set up a profile and provide credit card details. They justify this with, “We store your documents under your profile on our secure system so you can review, revise, or retrieve them whenever you want.”

Who It’s Right For: I recommend this option if you just want a “one-and-done” legal document template. If you’re not looking for a long term commitment or other legal services, this option is definitely for you.

Premium Package = $39.95

Moving on to their Premium package, this monthly subscription allows you to create as many documents as you like. Access all documents on their system, and their legal specialists will be on call to review your forms/contracts and answer questions.

Who It’s Right For: I think this package is a great fit for small businesses looking for an ongoing legal subscription that gives you access to a handful of really helpful features. This package isn’t as comprehensive as the one we’re talking about next, but if you don’t require extensive support, it’s a great option.

Accelerate Package = $49.95

And finally, we’ve got the Accelerate package. The big difference here is you get free Registered Agent service. You still have unlimited access to their templates like we saw in the Premium package, along with reduced rates if you decide to form an LLC or incorporate.

Who It’s Right For: I recommend this package if you’re in the process of forming a business and want to save a little money, or you really would like the personalized support that the Registered Agent service allows for.

Recommended Package

For most of our readers, I’d recommend their Premium package. It allows you to create any document from their template library (and a lot more useful features for business owners), so no matter what you need, they’ve got you covered.

However, if you’re just looking for an LLC operating agreement and that’s it, go with the Single Document Purchase.

Customer Reviews

Customer ReviewsRocket Lawyer has helped over 20 million people, so it’s no surprise that they’ve received hundreds of reviews online. To give you an idea about what reviewers our saying, we’ve tallied up their reviews across a number of popular review platforms.

Customer reviews as of 8-31-2017:

  • BBB: A+
  • TrustPilot: 9.5/10, 111 reviews
  • SiteJabber: 3.3/5, 386 reviews
  • FitSmallBusiness: 3/5, 3 reviews
  • Consumer Affairs: 2.5/5, 8 reviews

As you can see, their reviews are a little all over the place. Some people love them, some don’t. The #1 complaint online is from people who feel they were unjustly charged. This isn’t necessarily the case and I think is due to the semi-confusing pricing setup Rocket Lawyer has, but because it is so prevalent in the reviews, I highly recommend that you double check everything during the registration process.

Overall most people love that their packages give you unlimited access to their templates and how much time and money it saves over conventional legal help.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I still need an attorney?

Maybe. If you can afford your own attorney, then that’s an ideal way to go. No doubt. If you can’t afford a good attorney and have no access, or you’re somewhat familiar with the legalities in terms of documents like operating agreements and just simple questions would work, then consider providers like Rocket Lawyer.

Are there any hidden fees?

Hidden fees, no. But there is one thing to keep in mind. As I mentioned earlier, the number one customer complaint we found was from users that few they were overcharged for what they received. Please keep in mind that Rocket Lawyer, for the most part, is a subscription based service and they’ll bill you monthly if you ‘sign up for a free trial’.

Should You Use Rocket Lawyer Templates?

Based on everything we’ve talked about in this review, I’d give the Rocket Lawyers LLC Operating Agreement template a 4.4 out of 5 stars. They offer a variety of packages for all types of use and a huge selection of templates to choose from if you need more.
