How Virdee Works and Early Success
Austin-based tech startup Virdee has developed software and an app built to help promote contactless check-in and reception across different business types. Through the use of the Virdee app and its virtual reception kiosk, the company can accompany the customer every step of the way from check-in to receiving a key card and eventually the check-out process, all while avoiding contact with another person.
The company was founded after the onset of the pandemic with the express purpose of its technology made to eliminate risk in the different businesses where in-person contact remains high. Outside of simply reducing the risk of infection, Virdee helps a business lower costs and increase efficiency throughout the check-in and check-out process.
Another major advantage for the company is that there is no necessity for additional, specific hardware. While the startup does offer the virtual reception kiosk as a product, the only tools needed are the software for any existing hardware and the app, which can be downloaded on either Android or iOS devices. This allows for businesses to begin integrating Virdee into their services without the need to make significant investments in new systems or hardware.
Although the company is fairly new, the tech startup has already seen some early success. In fact, Virdee’s software and services have already been adopted by hotel chains as well as multifamily and corporate housing brands. The effectiveness of the app and tech created by the startup has led to significant enthusiasm from a variety of investors who see massive business potential.
Funding for the Company and Future Plans
In Virdee’s seed funding round, the company raised $4 million worth of capital. The funding round was led by Silverton Partners with participation from LiveOak Venture Partners. DJR Advisors also invested in Virdee. The startup will use the new capital in order to focus more heavily on growth into other business sectors such as student housing and medical verticals, and will continue to build on the success it has seen in hospitality and multifamily housing.
When commenting on the newest funding, co-founder of Virdee Branigan Mulcahy said, “We are deeply appreciative of the participation of each of our new investors. This is a group of visionaries with amazing experience in scaling and building out disruptive SaaS businesses. We could not be more excited about the insights and strategic guidance each of them brings to the table and look forward to working closely with all of them to build Virdee's exciting future.”
