PlayZoom Products and Plans
PlayZoom is a line of products created by iTouch Wearables, specifically designed and marketed toward kids. The company plans to release a new line of products, including smartwatches, digital cameras, headphones, and walkie talkies by mid-November in order to create buzz going into the holiday season. However, it is without questions that the centerpiece of this line is going to be the smartwatches. PlayZoom is currently advertising five different types of kids smartwatches, all with the same basic technology but very different designs. The company’s two basic designs are girl-focused color schemes and choices, along with boy-focused colors and layouts. Beyond this, however, iTouch has partnered with different brands in order to create designs more in touch with pop culture and recognizable characters. Some of these brands include popular collectible doll brand LOL Surprise!, Hello Kitty, and a collection of DC superheroes including Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. Each smartwatch comes with a variety of features since PlayZoom’s intent is to enrich and educate children.
The highlights of these features include games meant to help kids learn how to code, interactive audiobooks, and photo-editing software. The smartwatch has other games available as well, though the details remain unclear. The watches will also have a camera capable of photos and videos that can be stored and managed on the device. While the PlayZoom smartwatch does have a series of basic capabilities, perhaps the biggest selling point is providing kids with a form of wearable technology for an incredibly low price, with most of the watches costing less than $35. Perhaps most fascinating about the idea of a PlayZoom smartwatch is the rapid expansion of the wearable technology field, which is now large enough to support creating entire lines of kids’ products.
Wearable Technology Market
The wearable technology market has seen major growth over the past few years, with smartwatches from companies such as Apple and Samsung making major waves. Along with this has come the fitness tracking wristband led by Fitbit, which has been steadily expanding its scope by creating a smartwatch as well. According to analysts, there is already an estimated 10% of adults in the United States who own and wear a smartwatch. Based on this, it is predicted that around 31.5 million Americans between the ages of 18 and 55 will own some form of smartwatch by the end of 2020. The integration of these products into everyday life by connecting with smartphones and gaining internet capabilities have made analysts extremely optimistic about the future of the industry. In fact, projections have the wearable technology market reaching an incredible $57.49 billion by 2025. This would mean that the market would see a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.9%. The health and wellness portion of the industry would see the fastest growth, with the specific CAGR of that segment higher at 10.15% during this period of time.
iTouch creating a line of wearable technology for kids in their brand, PlayZoom, is indicative of the current, larger trends in the industry. The expansion into reaching a market for children suggests that wearable technology is only going to continue to grow in the coming years. The projections support that very idea. PlayZoom selling affordable and durable smartwatches with new lines dropping near the holidays should certainly be a major step in taking an already growing market and selling it to a new demographic of consumers, which has not been fully reached yet.
