Incorporate.com DBA Review

Is It A Reliable Service?

Incorporate.com DBA Review

Do you need a Doing Business As name for your company? There are plenty of reasons to get a DBA, like enhancing the credibility of a sole proprietorship or expanding a business to reach a new market.

Unfortunately, it can be hard to figure out which DBA filing service is best, since there are so many competing for your business.

To supplement your own research, my team and I spent countless hours analyzing the details of all the popular online DBA filing services on the market. My goal is to provide you with all the information you need to make the best decision for your business.

In this Incorporate.com DBA review, I’ll walk you through their pros and cons, pricing and features, customer feedback and more. Read on to see if they’re a good fit for you!

Pros & Cons of Incorporate.com

Pros of Incorporate.com

  • Incorporate.com originated as "The Company Corporation", which was founded way back in 1899 (that's right -- 1899). Needless to say, they've got a level of longevity that no competitor can match. Plus, they’ve served 750,000+ customers over the years, giving them an impressive client volume as well.
  • Incorporate.com includes far more valuable material in their online Learning Center than most of their competitors. They have ebooks and guides that cover everything from writing a business plan to doing your taxes.
  • With extended support hours that run Monday through Friday from 8am to 8pm (ET), they’re available to help you whether it’s the middle of the work day or after you close up shop.

Cons of Incorporate.com

  • Incorporate.com's DBA services aren't the cheapest on the market. Most providers offer price points of $100 or less, but Incorporate.com charges $150 plus some extra fees.
  • Their customer feedback is largely negative. Of the 100+ reviews they have online, the majority are complaints.

Incorporate.com DBA Alternative

LegalZoom is a good provider of DBA services due to their brand popularity and their satisfaction guarantee. Read Review

LegalZoom

Incorporate.com DBA Pricing & Features

Incorporate.com's DBA services cost $150 plus fees. Fees vary dramatically from state to state, as some have special requirements like newspaper publication.

For example, let’s look at the state of Georgia. In addition to the $150 service fee, they add on a shipping fee, county fee, publishing fee (to publicize your new business name in a newspaper), and a walk-in correspondent fee to hire someone to hand-deliver your documents to the Secretary of State’s office.

Incorporate DBA Pricing

As for what you get with your DBA package, it’s limited to the essentials: a business name check and preparation/filing of your DBA forms.

It's worth noting that while most providers include all shipping costs in their DBA service fee, Incorporate.com tacks an extra $20 on for shipping in many states. Compared to a competitor like LegalZoom, state-specific fees can stack up pretty high with Incorporate.com. For example, the cost of filing a Georgia DBA with LegalZoom is $301, compared to Incorporate.com’s $397 rate.

Again, fees vary a lot from state to state, so your DBA may cost significantly less than the prices we've listed here.

Customer Reviews

To be honest, Incorporate.com doesn’t exactly excel when it comes to customer feedback.

Between Yelp, FitSmallBusiness and BBB.org, I found over 100 reviews, but only a handful of them are positive. The positive ones mention the efficiency of Incorporate.com’s services, but the critical ones discuss things like billing issues and filing errors. Take a look at their rating breakdown below:

Customer Reviews Section Last Updated 10-23-17
  • Yelp: 2.0/5 out of 33 reviews
  • BBB.org: 3.68/5 stars, 13 reviews and 77 complaints
  • FitSmallBusiness: 2.0/5 stars, 11 reviews

Conclusion: I do wish they had more positive customer feedback, but frankly this is a very small sample size considering they've served over 750,000 customers. Still, it’s clear that Incorporate.com isn’t going to win your business based on their customer reviews.

How Incorporate.com Compares

Incorporate.com's major selling points are their incredible longevity as a company and their jam-packed Learning Center.

However, the goal here is to find you a provider that offers the perfect blend of features at a realistic price, so it’s always smart to keep an eye on the competition. Let’s see how they stack up against my personal favorite DBA service provider, LegalZoom.

Pricing: LegalZoom’s base rate of $99 is significantly lower than Incorporate.com’s $150 price tag, especially since LegalZoom doesn’t add on as many fees.

Features: For the most part, their base-level packages are quite similar, but LegalZoom also offers a $119 package that includes a 3-month trial of QuickBooks Online and a 30-day trial of their legal services subscription, Business Advisory Plan.

Customer Support: Both Incorporate.com and LegalZoom have decent customer service departments, but they're both somewhat inconsistent. In our experience, Incorporate.com’s representatives aren’t quite as knowledgeable as they ought to be, although they’re easy to get ahold of. On the other hand, LegalZoom works with a massive volume of customers, so their support can be hit and miss.

Experience: Incorporate.com opened way back in 1899 and has served 750,000+ customers. In comparison, LegalZoom only opened in 1999 and has already helped over 1 million businesses!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I File a DBA Independently?

You always have that option, but it's important to know going in that it can be quite a hassle depending on your location. Using a DBA filing service like Incorporate.com frees you up to actually run your business while they deal with all the paperwork. However, if you would like to try the DIY route, check out our extensive how-to guide.

What’s Their Refund Policy?

In their own words, “if you cancel your order after it has been submitted, we will use our discretion to determine what portion of the fee, if any, will be refunded.” If you request a refund before Incorporate.com submits your paperwork, though, they’ll refund your payment (minus $50).

How Secure Is Incorporate.com?

With McAfee Secure protecting their website, you can feel confident that you’re as safe using Incorporate.com as any of their competitors.

Do They Offer Ongoing Support?

They sure do, Monday through Friday from 8 am to 8 pm (ET). Their service department runs on the motto “no dumb questions,” so even if you feel like your question is too simple they're willing to help.

Should You Use Incorporate.com?

Incorporate.com earns a score of 4.5/5 in my book. Their longevity as a company is super impressive, and their Learning Center has lots of valuable information to offer. The main downside to using their services is the higher overall cost, which is a deal-breaker for some folks. That being said, if this doesn’t sound like your perfect fit, check out our Best DBA Filing Services review. Cheers!
