Interview With Karl Cadet

Describe your product or service:

“Bodha.AI is a SaaS Performance and Talent Management platform, where HR Admins can invite employees to onboard, create Objectives/Goals and Key Results (OKR), track progress, schedule 1:1 meetings, write notes, conduct peer reviews, most importantly take cognitive assessments in the platform, which provides 45 distinctive traits on personality, values, leadership abilities, etc.

All of this information is FED to our AI Engine, which provides GAP analytics on team composition, gaps in knowledge, inspiration, tools, and environment. We call it the ‘KITE’ model.

That's not all — HR Admin can post a job vacancy and invite candidates to complete the same cognitive assessment so that we provide metrics on how the new person will be coherent with the existing team.”

Describe your company values and mission:

“We developed an AI-driven talent and performance management platform using cognitive science and AI to help individuals come alive in their vocation so they can wake up excited to go to work and serve with awareness and authenticity. We do this by enabling self-discovery, career alignment, and workplace performance so that people can manifest their unique, authentic gifts.”

How are you funded? I.e. venture capital, angel investors, etc.

“Venture and family/colleagues/friends.”

How big is your team? Tell us a little about them (I.e. co-founders, freelancers, etc.)

“11 — seven full-time (including five developers) and four part-time.”

How did you come up with your startup idea? How did you decide to actually act on the idea? What gave you confidence that you were on the right track?

“I've been entrepreneurial since 1992, running my own IT consulting practice. I've also done lots of cognitive assessments revealing 'entrepreneurial' as one of my strongest traits. So, I have been preparing myself for the last 25 years for this moment. I've armed myself with the required self-knowledge in order to tell my own story and align myself with my own vision as a solution to alleviate employee disengagement.”

How did you come up with your company name? Did you have other names you considered?

“My partner Sathish is of Indian descent. We are both fond of Buddhist philosophy as a positive message for self-knowledge and discovery. He suggested the name as an expression of gratefulness.”

Who is your product or service made for? Who is your target market?

“HR Admin — Organizations interested in team cohesion to create a sense of belonging.”

What's your marketing strategy?

“Leverage Sales Intelligence software for our sales team to do smart prospecting.”

What are the key customer metrics / unit economics / KPIs you pay attention to to monitor the health of your business?

“Closed deal amount vs. goals, closed revenue by tram member, open deals set to close per month, activity leadership by RAM, etc.”

What's your favorite book on entrepreneurship?

“‘Visionaries Thrive In All Times’ by J. Hamilton”

What is your favorite startup or business podcast?

“NFX podcast.”

What is something that surprised you about entrepreneurship?

“Entrepreneurship is about dedication to an organizing idea and requires a warrior spirit, ability to take risks, faith, determination, ability to take risks, and above all, an element of FAITH. It's a journey and becomes one's life purpose. It is like a religion.”

How do you achieve work/life balance as a founder?

“I am an early riser. I start the day with meditation, a gym workout, and then work for 10 to 12 hours. I also watch sports, audiobooks, stay in contact with close family, and great Pandora music stations.”

How do you stay motivated?

“The passion to help others become who they are, according to C. J. Jung, keeps me very motivated.”

Did you have to develop any habits that helped lead you to success? If so, what are they?

“I spent 25 years in IT consulting working with companies like JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Lowes, Coca Cola, Lucent, E&Y, UConn, UBS, and many more.”

What are you most proud of as an entrepreneur?

“The ability to sustain three years dedicated full time to a project. The actual implementation is the most challenging. We can always find the best sales and marketing professionals to generate revenue after product deployment.”
