How to Elect a Registered Agent in Alabama

In Alabama, LLCs, corporations, and nonprofit organizations elect their registered agents on the formation document for each type of business entity.

Elect a Registered Agent for Your LLC

Complete the Domestic LLC Certificate of Formation. Your registered agent information will go into Section 3.

The cost to file the LLC Certificate of Formation with the state is $100 plus the appropriate county filing fees. To determine the county filing fees, contact the Office of the Judge of Probate in the county where your LLC’s registered office is/will be located.

NOTE: Your LLC must already have a Certificate of Name Reservation before you can file the LLC Certificate of Formation.

File by Mail

Submit one signed original and two copies of your LLC Certificate of Formation to the Office of the Judge of Probate in the county where your LLC’s registered office is/will be located.

File Online

Depending on the county where your LLC is/will be located, you can form your LLC on the Alabama Interactive website.

You will need to set up an account with Alabama Interactive to file online. If online filing is not available in your county, Alabama Interactive will notify you during the filing process.

Elect a Registered Agent for Your Corporation

Complete the Domestic Business Corporation Certificate of Incorporation. Your registered agent information will go into Section 4.

The cost to file the For-Profit Certificate of Incorporation is $100.

How to Change Your Registered Agent in Alabama

To legally change your Alabama registered agent, simply fill out a Change of Registered Agent or Registered Office by Entity form and submit it to the Alabama Secretary of State along with the filing fee.

This can be done by mailing two copies of your completed form to the address below:
